Baby Bubble
« on: December 23, 2011, 07:32:44 PM »
Hello
Sorry I kind of disappeared for awhile, I was going through a really rough spell for awhile there.
Anyway, I now have 5 bubble eyes and today when we were celebrating Christmas, we brought them their gift and noticed an itty bitty fry!
I don't know when he was born because I never saw any eggs or foam. It is the only one I could find and I can't believe I spotted him!
It's about a centimeter long.
I really don't know what to do. I scooped him out in a cup so he wouldn't get sucked in the filter. I then crush some pellets for him to eat, but I don't even know if he can eat that yet. I have no idea how old it is!
Tomorrow I plan on going to the store to buy a mesh breeder so he can stay in the tank but not get sucked up.
What do I do now?

Thanks in advance!
Niky

Hi Niky,
Congrats to the lill bubble baby you found... sometimes we just don't realize our fishes spawning, it could have happened during night or early, early mornings.
Tiny wee was lucky that he survived.

It is a good idea to get a net tank, but please make sure the mesh is really very very fine, so he can't get through.
A small fry will like to eat microworms ( live ones ) and he'll grow quick. This is what I fed my goldie fry and hardly any of them died, all the rest grew up to be strong and healthy. With life microworms you must not get up during the night to feed every 2-3 hours either, 1 drop in the morning and 1 drop in the evening, little fishie will always find some more to gobble up.

Keep us updated on your lill wee :-h
CHEERS,
HANNA

You might get them at your LFs or you can order them on ebay and then make your own culture.
In the meantime you may like to feed Spirulina baby Powder from Sera, I try to find the link and post it.

here it is:  http://www.sera.de/uk/pages/products/in_category/food-specialties-264/product/sera-micron.html

Hey, welcome back!   :-h

Congrats on finding a baby!!! That's so unique!  If you can keep it alive, start a Fry Blog so we can all keep track.  A baby bubble would be so cool to watch grow up.   :)

Congratulations on the fry!!  That had to have been a surprise when you looked in the tank and saw that!

I look forward to hearing how s/he is doing and following the development.  I have always wondered if they were hatched with bubbles or if they develop over time...........  So are they hatched with bubbles??

Thanks guys!
I think I'm going to name him (or her) Hal...as in "Hallelujah! It's a Christmas miracle!"

They are not born with bubbles...they develop around 4-6 months :)
