Random Egg or two?
« on: March 04, 2010, 09:01:03 pm »
Just wondering if it's common for my goldfish to drop an egg or two once in a while? I see a few eggs drop here and there during feeding time but I don't know who is doing it. None of my males are in breeding condition and there are no signs of spawning.

I hope they don't become egg bound

Are they dropping them AS you feed, or do you notice them when you go to feed, in other words, are you seeing them drop the eggs?

I only notice it during feeding time when they go up to the surface for food. I never see who drops the eggs, I just see a few eggs falling.
Right now it's pretty cold in florida and my tank is unheated. It's around 70-75 I think. I don't know if it will trigger spawning behavior when it warms up.

I was wondering if maybe they are eating some of the eggs and that is why you don't see as many. :[

It could be possible. they do eat the eggs whenever they see them. I would try to hatch some if the males showed spawning behaviour, but they don't even have their breeding pimples.
