Are they trying to breed?
« on: September 17, 2009, 02:05:15 PM »
:goldfish:I have a Red Cap Oranda ( male) who keeps nudging  my female broadtail split tail but she does not seem interested. This happens daily in the morning but there is never signs of eggs or milt. So what is happening? they are other goldfish around so could this make them not give off eggs or milt. She does not look  any bigger than usual. Any Ideas?

I've seen my boys chase my female for days before any eggs are released and then again, I have seen them chase and not see any eggs at all. :[  It does sound like breeding behavior.  How long has this been going on?

Is the male nudging her vent area or does it seem like he is aggressive?  Does the happen to go on when you feed them?

:goldfish:The nudge happens around the vent and tail area. It happens in the morning but stops after awhile. I usually feed them in the evening.

Well it is true that some male fish are just more...boisterous than others and that some males will even chase other males when they are in the mood. lol  As long as he is not being too rough with her, then I would not worry too much about it.
