Where do people get all these beautiful orandas?
« on: July 02, 2009, 07:49:44 PM »
Ok so I have been on here for only like an hour, and I am amazed about how many beautiful goldfish are on here. I am an oranda kind of person so I am especially amazed by the orandas. I have one oranda who I found at Petsmart, but I considered her a rare find. Where do people get them?

here is wanda-

thanks!

Some were rescues, other were bought at www.goldfishconnection.com  A very good breeder sells his fish here at an auction they have like every 2-3 weeks.  Another excellent source is Raingarden Ornamentals.  We have a forum called Quality Goldfish Sales and Auctions, or something like that (we have so many forums that I get the names confused! lol) and you can find a lot of good sources there to get fish.  Also, some of our members do have showfish, and they get their's at places like GF Shows, and such.

Steve's Oranda are the bomb....and reasonably priced!
I don't know why they are so hard to find at the LFS....there are 2 pretty pale gold ones sitting at my Walmart right now that have been there forever.
(There were 3 but Nickie rescued a very nice chocolate one  :)

Maybe they don't sell well because to the average person they are unusual and not the fantail type they associate with fancy goldfish?? I don't know.... :[  I LOVE my Oranda boys!

The orandas sell here as fast as they can get them in and apprently the fish truck can only come into town one day a week.....  :[ .......

I stopped and asked the guys at our WalMart and he said they just got in 6 ornada on Thursday and there were none there last night when I was there.  The guy at our LFS says he is picky as to which orandas he gets and as soon as they hit his tank they sell, usually because people are waiting for them and they are beginning to know when they come out of his QT (2 weeks after arrival).  They are so popular here that they don't stay in the tanks.  He has offered to order me a special one...... but I have no room.  I didn't go to the other lfs, because those fish are always so beat up and sick looking I end up wanting to rescue and I have no room right now.

On the Oranda Tree.  It's a rare specimen, found only in the outbacks of Australia.   lol
