There are heroes and mentors among us everyday of our lives. They help us in more ways than we can ever count; a kind word, a shoulder to cry on, great advice, or going out of their way to bring you meds when you have a sick fish!

We would like to hear about your heroes! Tell us who you think deserves a special award for being a friend when you needed one. Tell us your story! We will give away one award per month to a special member who may have been "hiding their wings"...an angel in disguise!

Post your nominations here. Admin will choose a monthly winner on the first of every month. Winners get bragging rights in the form of a special emblem to place in their signature.

Nominees will carry over into each month, so that noone gets un-noticed.

June 2009 Award Winner:

Congratulations Marlin08!

Marlin08 has only been a member of AP since 9/15/08, and in that short period of time, has not only been a quick study and a dedicated poster....
but she went out of her way to help fellow members; people whom she had just met, literally! We are impressed!

July 2009 Award Winner:

Congratulations Kaida!

Kaida is our resident ill fish expert, & with her aquatic veterinarian consults, she has shed many a life-saving light on the plights of our ill and dying GF. Many of us literally owe her our GF lives! Thank you!

August 2009 Award Winner:

Congratulations SeaWitch!

Need we say more? What DOESN'T she do for all our members and their goldfish? From great advice and fish rescuing efforts, to always offering to help a member cycle their new tank or treat an ill fish, is just a drop in the bucket compared to everything she has to do with this forum. Let's face it...without her, AP would not be here, period. It was her "baby" from day one. We love you Nic!

Zookey is a long time member, who not only has a solid grasp on caring for goldfish, but she is always available to our members and impresses us daily with her compassion/passion and dedication to help. Thank you!

Without Lolafish (TM), there would be no AP! She does all of our technical stuff, updating the board, links exchange, spreading the word about AP...you name it, she does it! She also helps members with their fish, runs our photo contests...anything you see on the board here would not be possible without TM. Most of our members have no idea just how much she does for this forum because all of the hard work goes on "behind the scenes"! That is what TM does, ALL of the hard work! It is time for you to get the appreciation you so deserve!!!

A long time member, addictinganimal has the equivalent of a zoo living under her nose! Her advise to members with tropical fish especially, has been greatly appreciated. Thanks for giving us your loyalty and paying it forward!

BruceP is our resident contractor, who's elaborate DIY posts are a huge asset to our community. Need to build a tank stand or pond, or wonder how to make it all work in the best interest of your pets? He's definately the "go to" guy. Thanks for sharing your well-photographed tutorials in our DIY threads!

AP's biggest supporter from day one, one of our most loyal friends, and who is dating a very well-respected GF expert in fish illness which comes in VERY handy (hint, hint)...who has not only lent some invaluable information on fish care to the forums, but can always be depended on to be around for a long time to come. Although her busy life has taken her away from AP now and then, we appreciate that she was one of our first members to make AP what it is today.

My nomination is for Wynn (Marlin08) for the exact same thing!

Wynn did not really know me at all, but she drove out of her way to bring me some Metro-Meds when my Suri was on the brink of death. I KNOW in my heart that Suri would have died before I could have gotten any MM's from Rick. No matter who is chosen this go round, we are ALL so lucky to have such caring members on AP!

After losing all my gorgeous boys to an unknown problem..she went out of her way to buy me the two beauties from Hawaii..I thought I couldn't love another fish until I opened that box and laid my eyes on them! Nickie was right there on the phone with me to share my joy..I also want to thank her for mailing me out MM's, MG and jumpstart!

I don't know any of you folks well enough to pick someone. But everyone here is remarkable, the way you care about eachother and your fish. I work at a rape crisis and my coworkers couldn't give a crap about PEOPLE the way you all care for fish. I wish that wasn't true, but it is. I come here because sometimes I just need a kind, supportive word; a verbal hand to hold, an arm around my shoulder. I wish I had an award to hand out to you all!!!

I LOVE this forum and what I do is a labor of that love. However, it takes alot more than me to help this awesome place come together! The mods, TM, and our members are what MAKE AquaPuppies. If it weren't for all of you guys, there would be no forum.

I think Liv should be nominated to receive the award, she has helped me a lot with Bluey over the past year, she is very knowledgable and helpful. She explains things so that everyone can understand, and goes that extra mile to find out information, such as asking her vet.

Everyone is so helpful, it is hard to choose just one person!

I just want to say thank-you again to the kind people who answered my never-ending questions. I am really so happy I found this site, It really was a sort of sanctuary in my fish interest-less environment. It was such a relief to just post here and read a kind word and some constructive advice.

I vote for Jules! She's always answering my random crazy questions...even my non fish related ones! She is very patient with me as well and is very knowledgeable in many different areas and has helped me with my fish, ratties, veggies and a random rescue

I'm always a good ear..and love to give advice if I can help you...As far as fish, I'm still learning about GF illnesses...I don't know much in that area only what I've dealt with personally..I try, i really do..Sometimes I don't answer because i feel stupid and don't know

I'm kind of torn too. I'm new on this site so it's hard to pick just one. Everyone has just been so helpful, kind, and they don't get too agitated with newbies like me who really don' t have a clue most of the time.

They are especially amazing in the clinic forum. I peruse in there, and the people that post in there almost always know what to do to help remedy the problem, and if the fish does pass away (even if it was the owners fault) they offer condolences and suggestions to keep it from happening again. They are almost never spiteful. I think that is what sets this site apart.

Thank you, Chelsea! We do try, as most of us here HAVE been scorned before in different forums. Don't get me wrong, as I can still "lose it" when a member posts about a sick fish and then does not follow the advice given to them...then posts again a week later. >

We have had a few of them, but most of them don't come back as they just want treatment for their fish at that time, or don't agree with the advice given.

I just try to keep in mind what it was like for me when I started out and didn't know anything about fish.

OMG, I made so many awful mistakes! Most people were kind and understanding and tried to help me w/out being too ugly about it, but some were awful to me and made me feel like dirt.

There are two mods here that have not been mentioned, but I do have to say that I also want to nominate Fumi (Kintaro) and Claire. These two seem to always be there for me when I need someone...it may not be fish related, sometimes it is a personal problem, but they are there for me just the same. There are so many people on here who have helped me that it is hard to pick and choose, so I have to also throw in Zookey, Fizgig, and FishCrazy. Laura has helped me MANY TIMES on my many computer problems (yep, Fumi helped, too) and also when my fish are sick. Fizzy is helping me with my book and has also given me tips on plants and lighting for my betta tanks and photography tips. FishCrazy, too, has helped me with questions on tropicals and other issues. Cbudz for having never-ending patience with all our members and for his wonderful sense of humor that keeps me laughing all the time!

Olivia and TM, I can't nomimate enough, but as they HAVE already been nominated, I don't need to, but you guys know what all you have done for me, and I can't say how thankful I am!

Let's face it, here at AP, we ALL help each other. Members helping mods, mods helping member, members helping members...THAT is why AP is the best forum!

I nominate jason.d for jumping right in, feeling at home, and being so helpful on the boards right from the start! He graciously accepted our request to help out in the Photography forum, and I for one, am enjoying the photos he's posting of his new pond's construction! Ponds are my favorite, so anyone who can impress me in that dept. is one person I'm gonna appreciate very much.
