This is assuming your tank is cycled and you do regular water changes.  :thumbsup:

When you do wcs, you are adding oxygen into the water and removing nitrate.  Of course your fish are going to be happier!

Most of mine do sometimes except Tuck.  :[ He hates having his tank messed with period. Always gets fussed and then will lay with his face in a corner for about an hour afterward. Once he's sure I'm done he will come out and be his usual happy self,lol.

Mine never seem to get "perkier" when they have a water change.  But then again I am over stocked so I change water when the nitrAtes get to be between 5-10.  I thought that would help Kimmi too, but it doesn't seem to be having an effect on her anymore.

Yeah, they do. I assume it is because of the oxygen.

 It varies and was far more noticeable back when I wasn't so diligent about water changes. In the tanks that get large (50 to 75%) WCs weekly I notice less of a change than I do in my tropical/coral tanks(Smaller changes due to planting stocking or chemical adjustment).

 My guess is that it has something to do with waste buildup and oxygen(My GF tanks are the only ones with supplemental aeration). Also, I would think the motion and excitement of having things stirred up or moved around in a tanks riles up fish to some degree.  :goldfish:  Any additional increase in water quality would lead to perkiness and upped vitality. Like the stepping into fresh air at the beach or mountains does on humans I suppose.

Cleaner water means happier fish.  :thumbsup:

My bettas get perkier because they have smaller tanks so with water changes comes more oxygen in the water. My goldfish doesn't really notice because I vacuume his tank every other day at least because it's only a 10g, but he has a filter that pumps 300gph and a little air stone that he likes to play in..so he has planty of oxygen in his water. :goldfish:

I have to go with Misty Blue. Snotface goes into the sulk corner and pouts for an hour or so when I do one. It's like I'm supposed to be feeding her, she gets all excited and spins over, then she sees the tube, stops, and heads straight for the corner. :[ I do lots of and usually big wc's on her, so maybe there's not such a huge difference between water quality before and after sometimes? :[ There's LOTS of filtration on this tank too, since she's outgrown it and scared me.

The new fish seems perky/happy afterwards, but I swear, this is a HAPPY fish! Always bouncy. I only got him/her a few days ago, so we'll see if s/he stays so cheery.

Well, Banjo (my big baby ryukin) usually hates getting taken out of the tank. (I do that because I don't want him to get taken along with the 'dump out' water. :Sprint:) But when I put him back in he usually gets fed, so yeah, I guess he's perkier. (He gets fed 3 times a day)   :cook:
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

  He makes me lie down in green pastures,
       he leads me beside quiet waters,

   He restores my soul.
       He guides me in paths of righteousness
       for his name's sake.

   Even though I walk
       through the valley of the shadow of death,
       I will fear no evil,
       for you are with me;
       your rod and your staff,
       they comfort me.

   You prepare a table before me
       in the presence of my enemies.
       You anoint my head with oil;
       my cup overflows.

   Surely goodness and love will follow me
       all the days of my life,
       and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
       forever.

Absolutely as there is more dissolved O2 so it's like a party going on in their world if it's a big W/C
