Compatible Tank Mates
Not all fish can be put together in the same tank. Why you ask? Common Plecos
©
www.wikipedia.comCommon Plecos should never be kept with Goldfish. The reason being is that the pleco will suck the fishes slime coat off, especially at night when the fish is sleeping and vulnerable. If you want to try keeping plecos with your goldies, we suggest a Rubbernose Pleco or Bristlenose Pleco.
Other fish that can be kept safely with Goldfish are:
1. Apple Snails and Mystery Snails
2. Dojo Weather Loach
3. Hillstream Loach
4. Dwarf Otocinclus ***Please be aware that your goldie CAN make a snack of some of these fish, especially snails and the Dwarf Oto. Also, please research these animals and their needs before adding them with your goldies; you want to make sure you meet their needs as well as your aquapuppy's!!! ;)
Compatible Goldies
Not all goldies are compatible, and should be segregated. Examples are Bubble Eyes, Celestials, and Telescope Eyes, as these fish have sight problems and cannot compete for food with faster varieties like orandas and ranchus. They should be kept together in their own tank. As a general rule, single-tailed Goldfish like Comets and Shubunkins should not be kept with the mellower varieties like Lionheads and Ranchus. Always judge how to keep your fish based on their mobility, speed, and ability to compete for food. ARTICLE USE: Internet publication (club or non-profit web site):
