Got up at three am for work as usual this morning ! and noticed the basement was a little warm and stuffy, turned on the fish tank lights , and after a few moments gave em breakfast ! every thing was just fine ! I decided to open a window to cool off the room with nice morning air , returned home after a usual lousy day hoping to get a little tranquility looking at the fish ! when I notcied the three beautiful ranchus I bought a few weeks ago that were ready to get out of quarintine this weekend were all dead ! but all the other fish in the larger tanks were fine ! I did some water tests, all were acceptable, then came to the conclusion that the 30 gal quarintine tank was right by the window,which is about 200 yards away from an apple orchard which has not been kept up for five years now, talked to my only other neighbor who told me that somebody sprayed the trees today ! and it blew right towards our houses ! now is it fate ? or just plain bad luck that the only time I opened this window is when this would happen !

I just got done doing massive water changes on the rest of the tanks ! Time for a nap ! *(

Oh that's terrible! I'm so sorry you lost them. I hope that there are no long term effects for your surviving fish!

Thank you's ! Im not sure what it was because the farmer has been retired and moved to Florida , and just contracted the orchard out , But I'LL bet it was insecticide ! >

the other tanks seem to be OK so far !

I get a notice in the mailbox from landscapers when they are spraying stuff in the neighborhood.

The retired farmer lived across the street, he moved to Florida last winter and just rents the orchard out ! his house is empty at the moment, I'm in a kinda sparse location and only have one other neighbor to my north, who is the one who told me what happened ! I'm not sure who rents the orchard at this time because it seems I'm always at work when everything gets done ! I also have to worry about the feral cats whom I feed in the back yard , but my neighbor said they ran as soon as they heard the sprayer !

Yeah....no amount of stupid apples would ever replace the loss of a beloved pet...... *(

That is so sad cbudz! If he sprayed anything like insecticides he legally has to notify you prior to spraying (at least in MN). You should check it out - I wouldn't want my animals drinking water in the yard if the wind blew poison over the house! Where do you keep the rest of your critters while you are at work? They are all safe?

Well ! the dogs have the run of the house all day , and they behave great ! the indoor cats hide till the dogs are asleep !and yes they sleep in my bed at night !all 5 of them ! the out door cats live in big wooden cat boxes in the fenced in back yard ! ...... keeps the coyotes from getting them.... And the fish are in every room except the bathroom my daughters room , and my computer room ...... cause its also my smoking room ! the out door cats are doing ok becauce they are fed before i go to work ,and then again at night and the water is in they're houses ! only fish that were affected are the ones at ground zero by the window !

Well, I can't say I won it ! cause I snatched it in about 20 seconds as soon as the auction started ! it was just so unique ! getting it next wednesday ! woohoo !
